SPEAKER_03 00:00 - 00:01

Thank you, it looks so beautiful, you look stunning.

SPEAKER_03 00:01 - 00:06

Everybody dressed up for you, and yesterday everybody dressed in green for Cynthia.

SPEAKER_03 00:06 - 00:08

And it was so meaningful.

SPEAKER_03 00:09 - 00:10

Do you remember the first time we met?

SPEAKER_03 00:10 - 00:12

I will never forget it.

SPEAKER_03 00:12 - 00:14

We were at the play Anne Juliet.

SPEAKER_03 00:15 - 00:15

Yes.

SPEAKER_03 00:15 - 00:18

Which is my favorite, I've seen it four times.

SPEAKER_03 00:23 - 00:28

You know, the girls and their friends, and that particular night was Olive's birthday.

SPEAKER_03 00:28 - 00:29

Oh my God, that's right.

SPEAKER_03 00:29 - 00:33

And we were all sitting there, and it went like a line of telephone.

SPEAKER_03 00:33 - 00:35

It was and they were like,

SPEAKER_03 00:39 - 00:41

Ariana Grande is over there.

SPEAKER_03 00:42 - 00:43

And all of a sudden I just looked, and I was like.

SPEAKER_01 00:46 - 00:48

My side of the story, please.

SPEAKER_01 00:49 - 00:49

Yes, please.

SPEAKER_01 00:50 - 00:50

It's so insane.

SPEAKER_01 00:51 - 00:56

First of all, I don't know if you remember, but we finally locked eyes during Katy Perry's roar.

SPEAKER_01 00:56 - 00:57

Do you remember that?

SPEAKER_01 00:57 - 01:01

And then the confetti starts blowing out of the air.

SPEAKER_01 01:01 - 01:05

It's very loud, it's very intense, and then roar by Katy Perry's is playing.

SPEAKER_01 01:05 - 01:11

And then I look, and there's this beautiful woman, this beautiful presence reaching towards me, and it's Drew Barrymore.

SPEAKER_01 01:11 - 01:13

And I was like, what is happening?

SPEAKER_01 01:17 - 01:18

We held hands.

SPEAKER_01 01:18 - 01:22

We held hands like this across the row, and Katy Perry was still singing.

SPEAKER_01 01:23 - 01:29

And then you just made a little heart at me, and I was like, oh my goodness, I don't know when I'll ever see her again, but it felt like Cinderella in the front.

SPEAKER_01 01:29 - 01:30

I was like, oh my God, I love her.

SPEAKER_01 01:31 - 01:33

It was very Michelangelo.

SPEAKER_01 01:33 - 01:33

Yes.

SPEAKER_03 01:33 - 01:36

Touching hands, a little ET-ish.

SPEAKER_03 01:36 - 01:37

A little ET-ish.

SPEAKER_03 01:37 - 01:40

And I believe you were wearing a glove.

SPEAKER_03 01:40 - 01:41

Was I?

SPEAKER_03 01:41 - 01:43

I think so, or at least, I don't know.

SPEAKER_03 01:44 - 01:48

But I see it in my head, like a black sheer glove, or maybe I'm just crazy, but I...

SPEAKER_03 01:48 - 01:49

Oh my God.

SPEAKER_03 01:49 - 01:50

Oh, I was.

SPEAKER_03 01:50 - 01:51

You were.

SPEAKER_03 01:51 - 01:51

Anyway.

SPEAKER_03 01:51 - 01:53

Because I remember the feeling.

SPEAKER_03 01:53 - 01:58

I was like, and her hand is so delicate and beautiful, encased in this gorgeous glove.

SPEAKER_01 01:58 - 01:59

That's how I felt, but I think it was just your skin.

SPEAKER_01 02:00 - 02:00

It was.

SPEAKER_03 02:00 - 02:01

Oh my gosh, she's so soft.

SPEAKER_03 02:01 - 02:03

I was just so happy to be in your presence.

SPEAKER_03 02:04 - 02:04

Me too.

SPEAKER_03 02:05 - 02:12

Growing up with my daughters, I've never said it like that before, but that is what it feels like.

SPEAKER_03 02:12 - 02:48

You know, like I grew up in such a bizarre way in the industry, so growing up in a new way with them, you've been such an important figure in our life with your music, and then we also, thinking about Sam and Kat, when I was watching you play this extraordinary character, what was your process to do this incredible, comedic, beautiful, loving, actual, physical?

SPEAKER_03 02:49 - 02:56

I mean, this is everything in the arsenal you have to pull out to play a performance like this.

SPEAKER_03 02:57 - 02:58

How did you do it?

SPEAKER_01 02:58 - 03:17

I think, you know, it kind of, not to sound too on the nose, but I think the first thing I remember really studying is Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz, and I remember sitting in front of the TV and watching how she sang, how she held herself, how she, every little subtlety.

SPEAKER_01 03:18 - 03:19

I was so in love with her.

SPEAKER_01 03:19 - 03:20

I loved her.

SPEAKER_01 03:20 - 03:24

She was probably my first, I guess, impersonation.

SPEAKER_01 03:24 - 03:28

I would do it for my grandparents and for my mom, and, oh my god, that's me!

SPEAKER_01 03:28 - 03:28

I know.

SPEAKER_01 03:28 - 03:33

Wait, do you know about the fact that I used to wear a Scream mask with this dress?

SPEAKER_01 03:33 - 03:35

Why a Scream mask with Dorothy?

SPEAKER_01 03:36 - 03:37

Well, because I was weird.

SPEAKER_01 03:38 - 03:44

And I loved Scream, and I loved The Wizard of Oz, and I didn't, I never knew how to marry the two, so I just, I just did it, you know?

SPEAKER_01 03:44 - 03:46

It felt good, it felt authentic.

SPEAKER_01 03:46 - 03:47

It felt like a good.

SPEAKER_03 03:47 - 03:50

We're also talking about really difficult performances.

SPEAKER_03 03:51 - 03:59

Scream was so much harder than it looked, to have that type of hyperventilation, and tears, and energy for days after days.

SPEAKER_03 03:59 - 04:05

I have so much respect for what you've brought to this, the humanity.

SPEAKER_03 04:06 - 04:08

Again, there's something so sensual.

SPEAKER_03 04:09 - 04:11

You are subtle in moments, which I'm not good at.

SPEAKER_03 04:11 - 04:12

I'm a ham.

SPEAKER_01 04:12 - 04:13

No, you have it all.

SPEAKER_01 04:13 - 04:15

You do everything perfectly, go on.

SPEAKER_03 04:15 - 04:25

But it takes a lot of confidence to trust yourself, to not go big, or not go for the joke, but then also go for it, because nobody wants someone subtle the whole time.

SPEAKER_01 04:26 - 04:33

I think that is kind of the beauty of Glinda, is that she has these larger-than-life comedic moments, you know?

SPEAKER_01 04:33 - 04:48

But there's also a lot just underneath the surface, and I think I really wanted to take the time to get to know her, and to get to know her insecurities, and her fears, and the things she's desperate for.

SPEAKER_01 04:49 - 04:58

You know, she seems, and she is a girl who's had everything handed to her on a silver platter her whole life, and she's grown up very privileged, but there's a lot that is missing from her.

SPEAKER_01 04:59 - 05:11

And I wanted to make sure that I knew what those things were, so that even amidst the comedy, and even amidst, you know, the simple but beautiful things that she can say, like, look, it's tomorrow, like, those things hold weight for her.

SPEAKER_01 05:12 - 05:23

And, um, that I could use her trauma, and her pain, I knew what it was, so that it could all just kind of be there, if I used it or not, if you see it or not, it's just, I wanted to get to know her.

SPEAKER_03 05:23 - 05:28

Because I talked to Cynthia about what I kept pulling from when I watched it.

SPEAKER_03 05:28 - 05:28

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 05:35 - 05:37

I am so happy to be here, sorry.

SPEAKER_03 05:37 - 05:44

You have no idea, and the world tour you've been on, and everything that you've accomplished.

SPEAKER_03 05:44 - 05:50

This beautiful electric connection friendship that's so true and real and palpable, and we all feel it and sense it.

SPEAKER_01 05:50 - 05:51

It feels really beautiful.

SPEAKER_01 05:51 - 06:04

I think, you know, what we shared felt so incredibly special every single day, and to us it felt, that's okay, like, to us it felt that way, but you never know, you know?

SPEAKER_01 06:04 - 06:07

You're so lost in the sauce, if you will.

SPEAKER_01 06:07 - 06:33

You know, we were really in Oz for two and a half, three years, and we kind of tried to keep our blinders on, and keep the outside noise, and the expectations, and the, you know, fears of what would or wouldn't work, out of the room, so that we could just be as honest as possible with each other, and with John Chu, our brilliant director, who created the safest space in the entire world.

SPEAKER_01 06:38 - 06:56

It just really felt like such an intimate experience, considering the grandeur of it, and the size of what it actually was, and to see people take from it the most important thing, which is the themes, the forgiveness, the love, the friendship, and that is the true magic of it.

SPEAKER_03 06:56 - 07:21

And the pain in humanity, I don't think that I've seen a film, and what I said to Cynthia was, I, and I love the history of cinema, yet I don't feel like I've seen a film, especially female-led, that handles this humanity, and how people feel in the world, the way that you and Cynthia and John did together as a trifecta.

SPEAKER_01 07:21 - 07:46

Thank you, thank you, I think, first of all, thank you, but I just, I really think it's a beautiful thing that it fights for humanness, and the complexities that we're all so familiar with, that come with just being a human being, and, you know, it asks the question, are people good or wicked?

SPEAKER_01 07:47 - 07:49

And the answer is so complicated.

SPEAKER_01 07:49 - 07:53

And it also asks the question, once you know the truth, what do you do with it?

SPEAKER_01 07:53 - 07:58

And I think we all want to be like Elphaba when we find out the truth, you know?

SPEAKER_03 07:58 - 08:05

I know you so well as a musician, as we all do, but I can't, I see you as an actor right now.

SPEAKER_03 08:05 - 08:06

That is where I...

SPEAKER_03 08:06 - 08:06

Thank you.

SPEAKER_03 08:07 - 08:10

Because your performance in this is one for the ages.

SPEAKER_03 08:10 - 08:11

Thank you so much.

SPEAKER_02 08:12 - 08:12

It truly is.

SPEAKER_03 08:12 - 08:13

That's really nice.

SPEAKER_03 08:13 - 08:15

Like, your whole life led up to this outflow.

SPEAKER_03 08:16 - 08:17

It's true.

SPEAKER_03 08:23 - 08:30

Strong, and vulnerable, and powerful, and empathetic, and righteous, and all the colors that you bring to this.

SPEAKER_03 08:30 - 08:36

I, as an actor, have done this my whole life, and I'm watching you going, oh my God, how is she doing all of this?

SPEAKER_03 08:36 - 08:39

That's really insanely kind coming from you.

SPEAKER_01 08:39 - 08:41

It's very surreal to hear coming from you.

SPEAKER_01 08:41 - 08:42

Thank you.

SPEAKER_01 08:42 - 08:47

All I wanted to do was the work, and I wanted to leave that audition room every single time, knowing that I had...

SPEAKER_02 08:47 - 08:57

Oh my goodness, hi!

SPEAKER_01 08:57 - 08:59

Oh, immediate licks, immediate licks.

SPEAKER_01 08:59 - 09:00

Come on.

SPEAKER_01 09:00 - 09:01

Uh-oh, Toulouse is gonna be mad.

SPEAKER_01 09:02 - 09:03

Who's to lose?

SPEAKER_01 09:03 - 09:07

My dog, my boy, he's gonna be, like, a little, you know, upset.

SPEAKER_01 09:07 - 09:07

He's gonna sniff it, but that's okay.

SPEAKER_03 09:07 - 09:10

It's smelling you and wondering why you've two-timed him.

SPEAKER_03 09:12 - 09:13

That's okay.

SPEAKER_03 09:13 - 09:14

Hi.

SPEAKER_03 09:14 - 09:16

Oh, he likes my body oil.

SPEAKER_03 09:16 - 09:17

Oh yeah, he does.

SPEAKER_03 09:18 - 09:18

Hi.

SPEAKER_03 09:18 - 09:20

Hi, sweet thing.

SPEAKER_03 09:20 - 09:20

Hi.

SPEAKER_03 09:21 - 09:26

I heard that you flew down to Florida to watch this with your Nona.

SPEAKER_01 09:26 - 09:27

I did, yes.

SPEAKER_03 09:27 - 09:30

Do you know that your Nona is very important here?

SPEAKER_03 09:30 - 09:34

In fact, I did a segment on the news about your Nona.

SPEAKER_03 09:35 - 09:35

I have a clip of it.

SPEAKER_03 09:36 - 09:37

Can I show it real quick?

SPEAKER_03 09:37 - 09:44

In her song called Ordinary Thing, Nona says, never go to bed without kissing goodnight.

SPEAKER_03 09:45 - 09:46

That's the worst thing you can do.

SPEAKER_03 09:46 - 09:52

And if you can't, and if you don't feel comfortable doing it, then you're in the wrong place.

SPEAKER_03 09:52 - 09:53

Get out.

SPEAKER_00 09:53 - 09:53

Ooh.

SPEAKER_00 09:54 - 09:54

Ooh.

SPEAKER_03 09:54 - 10:00

I think that's very good advice.

SPEAKER_01 10:00 - 10:01

I do, too.

SPEAKER_01 10:01 - 10:07

You know, sometimes you need to hear from a Nona, from your 98-year-old, she's 99 now.

SPEAKER_01 10:07 - 10:08

99.

SPEAKER_01 10:08 - 10:08

Yes.

SPEAKER_03 10:09 - 10:14

And she's going to town.

SPEAKER_03 10:14 - 10:17

She saw the original Wizard of Oz.

SPEAKER_03 10:18 - 10:18

Yes.

SPEAKER_03 10:18 - 10:19

See, Wicked of Oz.

SPEAKER_03 10:19 - 10:20

Do you see the Freudian slip?

SPEAKER_03 10:21 - 10:21

I love it.

SPEAKER_03 10:22 - 10:22

Wicked of Oz.

SPEAKER_03 10:22 - 10:24

She saw the original.

SPEAKER_03 10:24 - 10:25

Yes.

SPEAKER_03 10:25 - 10:28

And what did she think of your performance, may I ask?

SPEAKER_01 10:28 - 10:40

I mean, she, it was just so surreal to sit with her in the movie theater that I grew up going to every weekend in Boca Raton, Florida at Cinemark 20, which used to be Movico 20, but it's Cinemark 20 now.

SPEAKER_01 10:40 - 10:43

And, yes, thank you to the one person who knows Boca.

SPEAKER_01 10:43 - 10:44

To the one Boca.

SPEAKER_01 10:46 - 10:52

No, but it was just very surreal to be able to share that with her in that theater and to hold her hand.

SPEAKER_01 10:52 - 10:52

Oh, my God.

SPEAKER_01 10:52 - 10:53

Stop.

SPEAKER_01 10:53 - 10:56

She's actually, I have something for you.

SPEAKER_00 10:56 - 10:56

Take it away.

SPEAKER_01 10:56 - 10:57

What are you talking about?

SPEAKER_00 10:58 - 11:00

Hi, Ariana.

SPEAKER_00 11:00 - 11:01

How are you?

SPEAKER_00 11:01 - 11:05

I just saw you in your wonderful, wonderful movie.

SPEAKER_00 11:05 - 11:07

I'm so proud of you.

SPEAKER_00 11:07 - 11:08

You made me so proud.

SPEAKER_00 11:09 - 11:11

Your talent is marvelous.

SPEAKER_00 11:11 - 11:13

I love you with all my heart.

SPEAKER_02 11:18 - 11:19

Why is no now?

SPEAKER_01 11:27 - 11:35

I'm very lucky to have my grandparents, my grandpa passed, but my grandparents were just such incredible human beings.

SPEAKER_01 11:35 - 11:41

And I feel like I learned so much from his work ethic and the way that he treats people.

SPEAKER_01 11:41 - 11:44

And I actually, he and John- Yeah, I was going to say-

SPEAKER_03 11:44 - 11:48

I heard they remind you of each other because of the way they treat people.

SPEAKER_01 11:49 - 11:49

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 11:49 - 11:54

John reminds me a lot of my grandpa in that way, which is the absolute highest compliment in the entire world.

SPEAKER_01 11:54 - 11:55

He was the best person in the world.

SPEAKER_01 11:56 - 11:56

But-

SPEAKER_03 11:56 - 12:06

Isn't that funny how we find, especially growing up in this industry, I always thought I will find the people that behave in a way that I want to model myself after.

SPEAKER_00 12:06 - 12:07

Right.

SPEAKER_03 12:07 - 12:10

I don't have anybody I love that overreacts, you know?

SPEAKER_03 12:10 - 12:12

I'm like shocked because I'm such an overreactor.

SPEAKER_03 12:13 - 12:14

Oh my God.

SPEAKER_03 12:14 - 12:16

I mean, I'm a big feeler.

SPEAKER_03 12:16 - 12:18

I'm a big emoter, which is confusing because- Me too.

SPEAKER_03 12:18 - 12:24

As a performer, you're wanting to keep all of that on the surface to access at any time.

SPEAKER_03 12:24 - 12:24

Right.

SPEAKER_03 12:24 - 12:27

So I always was like, well, I should be a big feeler.

SPEAKER_03 12:27 - 12:28

That'll be good for work.

SPEAKER_03 12:28 - 12:30

And now I'm like- It's perfect for work.

SPEAKER_03 12:30 - 12:33

And then I became a mother and I was like, I got to rein this in.

SPEAKER_03 12:34 - 12:35

I got to figure this out.

SPEAKER_03 12:36 - 12:36

Okay.

SPEAKER_03 12:37 - 12:42

Whenever I was doing things, I always loved when people asked me silly questions.

SPEAKER_03 12:42 - 12:42

Oh my God.

SPEAKER_03 12:42 - 12:47

As if they told me more about me than some of the obvious questions.

SPEAKER_03 12:47 - 12:49

So will you play silly questions with me?

SPEAKER_03 12:49 - 12:51

I will definitely play silly questions with me.

SPEAKER_02 12:51 - 12:55

I have something for you while we play the silly questions.

SPEAKER_03 12:55 - 12:56

There's so many gifts.

SPEAKER_03 12:56 - 12:57

What do you mean?

SPEAKER_03 12:57 - 13:00

Well, I have something that's extremely exciting and special.

SPEAKER_02 13:01 - 13:01

What are you talking about?

SPEAKER_03 13:01 - 13:03

And now it's owned in private hands.

SPEAKER_03 13:03 - 13:06

But for the purposes of our sit down, they loaned it to us.

SPEAKER_03 13:08 - 13:11

Bring out the original Glinda wand, please.

SPEAKER_03 13:11 - 13:15

Thank you, Angel.

SPEAKER_02 13:18 - 13:19

I'm going to take you right over here, honey.

SPEAKER_03 13:36 - 13:38

Here is the original wand.

SPEAKER_01 13:39 - 13:39

Oh no.

SPEAKER_01 13:39 - 13:40

Oh no.

SPEAKER_01 13:42 - 13:42

You're so thoughtful.

SPEAKER_01 13:43 - 13:43

This is crazy.

SPEAKER_01 13:44 - 13:45

Thank you.

SPEAKER_03 13:45 - 13:46

It's back where it should be.

SPEAKER_03 13:46 - 13:47

Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_03 13:47 - 13:48

Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_03 13:48 - 13:49

In Glinda's hands.

SPEAKER_01 13:51 - 14:07

I'm kidding.

SPEAKER_01 14:07 - 14:07

I'm kidding.

SPEAKER_01 14:08 - 14:09

You look so perfect with it.

SPEAKER_01 14:09 - 14:09

Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_01 14:09 - 14:10

Thank you.

SPEAKER_01 14:10 - 14:12

How did you even, how did you pull this off?

SPEAKER_03 14:12 - 14:15

I have to give credit to everyone on this show.

SPEAKER_03 14:15 - 14:18

Because literally, we were so excited about you coming here.

SPEAKER_03 14:19 - 14:20

We were like, okay, let's get the wand.

SPEAKER_03 14:20 - 14:21

Let's get Nona.

SPEAKER_03 14:21 - 14:25

And all the producers just, you deserve this kind of honor.

SPEAKER_03 14:25 - 14:26

That's the bottom line.

SPEAKER_03 14:26 - 14:26

How about that?

SPEAKER_03 14:32 - 14:33

Thank you.

SPEAKER_03 14:34 - 14:35

Isn't it?

SPEAKER_03 14:35 - 14:37

By the way, you guys have to know it's super heavy.

SPEAKER_03 14:38 - 14:39

It's like all lead.

SPEAKER_01 14:40 - 14:41

Yes, but it's like, I can't.

SPEAKER_03 14:41 - 14:43

And like the little jewels are intact.

SPEAKER_03 14:44 - 14:44

Oh my God.

SPEAKER_03 14:44 - 14:45

It's so beautiful.

SPEAKER_03 14:45 - 14:45

Wow.

SPEAKER_03 14:45 - 14:48

That is the original wand from The Wizard of Oz.

SPEAKER_03 14:48 - 14:50

So, there you go.

SPEAKER_02 14:52 - 15:00

And answer me these silly questions if you don't mind.

SPEAKER_03 15:00 - 15:00

Okay, here we go.

SPEAKER_03 15:00 - 15:01

Oh my God.

SPEAKER_01 15:01 - 15:01

Okay.

SPEAKER_03 15:01 - 15:03

What song do you have on repeat right now?

SPEAKER_01 15:03 - 15:03

Ooh.

SPEAKER_01 15:05 - 15:06

Dancing Through Life by Johnny Bailey.

SPEAKER_01 15:07 - 15:07

Excellent.

SPEAKER_03 15:08 - 15:10

I am so in love with him.

SPEAKER_01 15:10 - 15:11

He's the best person in the world.

SPEAKER_03 15:11 - 15:15

Cynthia said buckle up for two because he's even in it more.

SPEAKER_03 15:15 - 15:17

And I am, I, he can do no wrong.

SPEAKER_03 15:18 - 15:19

He can play every type of character.

SPEAKER_03 15:19 - 15:23

He is so darn sexy and so compelling.

SPEAKER_03 15:23 - 15:25

And I'm, I'm crazy for him.

SPEAKER_01 15:25 - 15:27

He's the best and Cynthia is the best.

SPEAKER_01 15:27 - 15:29

And they're both so beautiful in the second movie.

SPEAKER_01 15:29 - 15:31

Wait till you see everyone's where we go.

SPEAKER_01 15:31 - 15:34

I can't say anymore, but they're both so insanely.

SPEAKER_01 15:34 - 15:34

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 15:34 - 15:36

Good news is everyone will be there.

SPEAKER_01 15:37 - 15:41

I can't believe I'm holding this guys.

SPEAKER_01 15:42 - 15:42

I'm sorry.

SPEAKER_01 15:42 - 15:44

I feel, I'm distracted.

SPEAKER_01 15:44 - 15:45

I'm like, I'm, what am I going to do?

SPEAKER_01 15:47 - 15:47

Okay.

SPEAKER_01 15:48 - 15:50

What is your worst habit?

SPEAKER_01 15:50 - 15:51

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01 15:52 - 16:01

So when I get a manicure, if there's anything like any glops of glue, any tiny bit of gel that I can like find, I'll chew it off.

SPEAKER_01 16:01 - 16:03

And I, I, I, and then I ruin the whole thing.

SPEAKER_01 16:04 - 16:06

And then it's like a, it goes all downhill from there.

SPEAKER_03 16:06 - 16:08

I'm picturing a present I'm going to get for you.

SPEAKER_01 16:08 - 16:09

Oh no.

SPEAKER_01 16:09 - 16:09

What?

SPEAKER_01 16:09 - 16:09

Okay.

SPEAKER_01 16:09 - 16:10

No, no more presents.

SPEAKER_01 16:12 - 16:13

It's my turn.

SPEAKER_01 16:13 - 16:13

It's my turn.

SPEAKER_03 16:13 - 16:14

This one's from me to you.

SPEAKER_03 16:14 - 16:19

I was thinking of getting you like a little mini, you know, those roller files that they have at the nail salon.

SPEAKER_03 16:19 - 16:19

Oh my.

SPEAKER_03 16:19 - 16:20

That's what you need a little.

SPEAKER_03 16:20 - 16:21

You know what?

SPEAKER_03 16:21 - 16:22

I do actually.

SPEAKER_01 16:22 - 16:23

You have one.

SPEAKER_01 16:23 - 16:23

No, I do.

SPEAKER_01 16:24 - 16:24

Okay, good.

SPEAKER_01 16:25 - 16:25

I'm getting you one.

SPEAKER_03 16:25 - 16:26

Okay.

SPEAKER_03 16:26 - 16:32

Is there any other Broadway musical in history that speaks to you as something you would ever consider doing?

SPEAKER_01 16:32 - 16:35

I love Lady of the Lake, Spamalot.

SPEAKER_01 16:37 - 16:37

Spamalot.

SPEAKER_01 16:37 - 16:39

See, that's that comedy.

SPEAKER_01 16:39 - 16:40

I love like the Christopher Gass movies and SNL.

SPEAKER_01 16:40 - 16:41

Yes.

SPEAKER_01 16:41 - 16:43

Like I've always, I've always loved.

SPEAKER_01 16:44 - 16:44

Best in Show.

SPEAKER_01 16:45 - 16:45

Yes, Best in Show.

SPEAKER_01 16:45 - 16:45

Yes, Best in Show.

SPEAKER_03 16:45 - 16:46

Is my favorite movie in the world.

SPEAKER_03 16:47 - 16:48

I can watch it every day all the time.

SPEAKER_01 16:48 - 16:51

Did you happen to see The Drowsy Chaperone when it was on Broadway?

SPEAKER_01 16:51 - 16:51

No.

SPEAKER_01 16:52 - 16:53

You would love that show.

SPEAKER_01 16:53 - 16:54

That's another one that I love.

SPEAKER_01 16:54 - 16:55

It's so cute.

SPEAKER_01 16:55 - 16:55

You would love it.

SPEAKER_01 16:55 - 16:56

Sorry.

SPEAKER_01 16:56 - 17:03

I admire you so much because I know how hard you do work to learn and to take care of yourself and to grow.

SPEAKER_01 17:03 - 17:05

And I know how young you started.

SPEAKER_01 17:05 - 17:11

And I don't know too much about, you know, what your relationship has been to this industry the whole time.

SPEAKER_01 17:11 - 17:13

But I do know what you have shared publicly about it.

SPEAKER_01 17:13 - 17:17

And I just have to say, it can be ugly sometimes.

SPEAKER_01 17:17 - 17:27

And your strength and your heart and like who you are, the light that you bring and your ability to dance in the rain and preserve that childlike wonder.

SPEAKER_01 17:28 - 17:37

And I know that that does take a lot of hard work to come home to like little Drew and embrace her and to get there and do that work.

SPEAKER_01 17:37 - 17:37

It's hard.

SPEAKER_01 17:37 - 17:45

And I just wanted to say that because I admire you so much, not only because of your brilliant work, but because of the light that you bring and how happy you make people.

SPEAKER_01 17:46 - 17:48

Because that's really the most important thing.

SPEAKER_01 17:48 - 17:49

I'd like to say that.

SPEAKER_03 17:50 - 17:52

That means so much to me coming from you.

SPEAKER_03 17:52 - 18:00

I, as a mother, look at you so proud that my daughters and I love you so much because you're such a good person.

SPEAKER_03 18:00 - 18:15

And what you've done with this film and your life and your work is you've shown that no matter what, because it can be dark and ugly sometimes, is that you just find that beauty because it's there.

SPEAKER_03 18:15 - 18:19

You put one foot in front of the other and you be yourself.

SPEAKER_03 18:19 - 18:24

And the fight to be oneself is so hard and confusing for every human being on this planet.

SPEAKER_00 18:24 - 18:24

It's so hard and confusing.

SPEAKER_03 18:25 - 18:30

But you put out a film that literally in this world brings people together.

SPEAKER_03 18:31 - 18:33

Do you know what an accomplishment that is?

SPEAKER_03 18:33 - 18:33

Oh my God.

SPEAKER_03 18:34 - 18:38

I asked Cynthia what was going to happen when we came together and she was like, I don't

SPEAKER_02 18:38 - 18:39

know.

SPEAKER_03 18:39 - 18:40

She said the same thing to me.

SPEAKER_01 18:40 - 18:41

She was like, I don't know what's going to happen.

SPEAKER_03 18:41 - 18:43

She was like, you two are going to, I don't know.

SPEAKER_03 18:43 - 18:48

I've never known what it was like to put my own happiness first.

SPEAKER_03 18:48 - 18:50

I've been a tremendous people pleaser my whole life.

SPEAKER_03 18:50 - 18:54

I think that's an occupational hazard that we go through.

SPEAKER_03 18:54 - 19:03

I think anybody who puts a lot of themselves into something at a young age will probably develop those habits.

SPEAKER_03 19:03 - 19:06

How can I not be there for everybody all the time?

SPEAKER_03 19:06 - 19:08

But you would get tired sometimes, I bet.

SPEAKER_01 19:12 - 19:12

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 19:14 - 19:20

And you know, it's I think the most important thing that we can learn as recovering people pleasers on this couch.

SPEAKER_01 19:21 - 19:23

I am a recovering people pleaser.

SPEAKER_01 19:24 - 19:24

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_01 19:24 - 19:24

Me too.

SPEAKER_01 19:24 - 19:25

Are you?

SPEAKER_01 19:25 - 19:26

Oh, absolutely.

SPEAKER_01 19:26 - 19:26

Oh, good.

SPEAKER_01 19:27 - 19:31

We did a sketch about it on SNL and I was like, this isn't a sketch.

SPEAKER_01 19:31 - 19:32

This is my life.

SPEAKER_01 19:33 - 19:42

No, but I really think that the most important thing that we can learn is like, we can give and give and give because it makes us really happy and meet people and human connection.

SPEAKER_01 19:42 - 19:43

That's like my favorite thing.

SPEAKER_01 19:43 - 19:44

I love meeting people.

SPEAKER_01 19:44 - 19:50

I love having lovely meaningful interactions and conversations with strangers and lovely people and like old people in the park and anyone.

SPEAKER_01 19:50 - 19:50

I really do.

SPEAKER_01 19:51 - 19:56

But sometimes, sometimes when we are tired or giving too much.

SPEAKER_01 19:56 - 19:57

Battery drained.

SPEAKER_01 19:57 - 20:00

It's okay to have a boundary in a loving and respectful way.

SPEAKER_01 20:00 - 20:02

Boundaries will save your life.

SPEAKER_01 20:02 - 20:04

Terry's done a great job.

SPEAKER_03 20:04 - 20:08

You and Terry have done great work together and it takes the two of you.

SPEAKER_03 20:10 - 20:12

Tried to correspond before.

SPEAKER_03 20:13 - 20:16

In fact, I have a record of our DMs.

SPEAKER_03 20:16 - 20:17

Oh, thank goodness.

SPEAKER_03 20:18 - 20:19

But I didn't know how to do it.

SPEAKER_03 20:19 - 20:23

If you show it on the screen, you sent me, I don't know what that is.

SPEAKER_03 20:23 - 20:23

What is that?

SPEAKER_03 20:23 - 20:25

That's a voice note.

SPEAKER_03 20:25 - 20:26

I don't know what it says.

SPEAKER_03 20:26 - 20:29

You can send a voice note on a DM?

SPEAKER_03 20:29 - 20:29

Yes.

SPEAKER_01 20:30 - 20:31

I didn't understand it.

SPEAKER_01 20:31 - 20:32

Why is it one minute long?

SPEAKER_01 20:32 - 20:33

I need to relax.

SPEAKER_03 20:34 - 20:39

And then I sent you one back six months later when I found it.

SPEAKER_03 20:40 - 20:43

And I think by that point, you had my number as well.

SPEAKER_03 20:43 - 20:47

Well, and then funny enough, you sent me another voice memo.

SPEAKER_03 20:47 - 20:49

But I'm just gonna make sure this is my phone number.

SPEAKER_03 20:49 - 20:50

Thank you.

SPEAKER_03 20:50 - 20:51

And I would love to be in touch.

SPEAKER_03 20:52 - 20:57

And we can talk about boundaries and humanity and love of people and joy and fierceness

SPEAKER_02 20:57 - 21:02

and not abandoning.

SPEAKER_02 21:03 - 21:03

Yes.

SPEAKER_03 21:03 - 21:07

Your grandfather would be so proud at how good you are to people.

SPEAKER_03 21:07 - 21:10

And it's so key to know that you have boundaries and have figured that out.

SPEAKER_03 21:10 - 21:12

Because then it's gonna balance it out so beautifully.

SPEAKER_03 21:13 - 21:18

And then you'll have the life that you deserve as you're so giving and incredible to everyone else.

SPEAKER_01 21:19 - 21:19

Oh, yay, yay.

SPEAKER_02 21:19 - 21:20

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 21:20 - 21:26

Well, Mary and Terry are feeling good right now.

SPEAKER_02 21:26 - 21:27

They just feel a flutter.

SPEAKER_02 21:28 - 21:32

We'll be right back.
