but then you have you have a you have a culture in Brownsville that is so connected to each other and everybody amongst Brownsville that if you ain't from Brownsville yeah stay the fuck away from Brownsville

I'd run down in the garden I would scalp them to the scalpers yeah and uh there were $25 a ticket but then I would go to as many games as possible you know and my whole life my my grandma was a huge Knicks fan so that's what turned me on to them and if you if you live in New York you are a Knicks fan you know my grandma had a New York Giants teddy bear and a New York Jets teddy bear but she only had a New York Knicks teddy bear you know no disrespect to Nets fans but if you're a Nets fan yeah

actually I got another good question for you a theory I feel like playoff basketball in New York I don't know if it's that the fans are so close to the court or something because I think I literally think if you go to like a game at crypto the baseline is further at crypto than it is a little more space do you think sometimes I feel like the fans are so intense in New York supporting and like do you think it gets in the players head sometimes because I feel like you watch an OKC Thunder game it's as intense the home the home crowd but something about that New York grit it doesn't seem as like it gets in the heads as much and I feel like I've watched New York playoff basketball

games sometimes especially being there now I'm like wow this is so intense on the players do you think it's harder in New York to play for for the Knicks um not harder in a bad way but just like more

intense than if you were playing for OKC or Indiana yeah it's what it what New York does is it keeps you on point like it it keeps you reminded that I have to be my I have to do my best and I have to be the best so if you embrace that it you want you're gonna be good because you're gonna do what you have to do to be the best every single night but when you don't embrace that and you just I'm gonna go through the motions and I'm gonna just be cool and okay I'm gonna play this you can't treat New York like you could treat any other city when it comes to performance you can't do that

performing in Utah or Milwaukee is a lot different than performing in New York even performing in Miami and performing in Dallas is different than performing in New York New York is a performance based community to the world so when you come when you play and you perform you got to bring your a game so New York keeps you on that edge it's just most people who don't who have limitations who can't perform on a night-to-night basis but do you feel like that also puts a the team in a

disadvantage that all the away teams are always coming into here I mean a disadvantage you could

look at it as a disadvantage or you could look at it as a challenge right prior to when I got there right they was looking at it as an a disadvantage when I got there my goal was to try to change that mindset when motherfuckers coming to this garden they got to know what time it is it's showtime when we when it's coming to this garden like and you had to have a different mindset coming into this garden it wasn't no oh we coming in the garden getting 30 getting 40 getting 50s like no we we

nobody's coming in our court doing that type of shit so it was a you know it again it was a culture that was that was created from that but I do believe that there's other tough arenas to play in like it's tough to play in OKC it was tough to play in Utah Utah was like a high school gym like a college gym where the fans is right here that's the court the fans is right here I could trip my foot out and you know and and fuck you up on the court if you make a wrong move you might trip over my ankle like in Utah it was it's a lot different uh Sacramento right Arco Arena the old Arco Arena

stuck with me honestly was I feel like being a fan of sports I look at things with an athletic background acting that is and I like to not that I'm competitive but I like to see what my peers are doing and but everything's very friendly at the end of the day when you see other actors that worship and really my big takeaway from Kendrick's was it was during all the huge beef last year I was just so amazed like I was so impressed that this man who was so calm sitting next to me and I was like wow he's engaged in a gladiator sport right now and as much as I love hip-hop and

all this I was sitting next I was like wow I could not do that you know to be that I don't know like his calmness I don't know if I'm doing a good job describing it I was just like I couldn't believe his

I couldn't believe like you could be that big at war with somebody that big and go about your life I don't know just be chilling yeah that was just unfathomable unfathomable to me otherwise he's a he's uh somebody I grew up listening to and I just appreciated him you know just getting the opportunity to do it you know and I joke about the white boy the year stuff and all that but it's a fine line to walk you know I want to be respectful and all the shit you're supposed to say blah blah blah but really I'm just a fan you know I'm a fan of of black culture and hip-hop and all of

that competitive edge in acting like how do you use that in just everyday life and how do you use that to continue to

well Marty Supreme is about the pursuit of greatness that's what this movie is about it's about ambition it's about having a dream at a time where it's hard to have a dream you know for that kind of speech it's just about recontextualizing I feel like the environment I'm in because you think about De Niro you think about Leonardo DiCaprio Daniel Day-Lewis those are the greats the way Michael Jordan's a great but people don't want to make room for the greats today because the nostalgia is so thick

and Marty Supreme is the culmination of that it is about a guy who won't take no for an answer it's about being an idiot in your 20s it's about not taking no for as an answer from anyone and about being the greatest at something not necessarily the greatest at basketball like Melo or fame and stuff like that because it's about ping pong but you know about pursuing your greatness and not being ashamed about it
